Image of Gary YeeGary Yee, Ed.D. has served in a broad array of educational settings which inform the work of the Career Ladders Project. He recently retired as Vice Chancellor of Educational Services, Peralta Community College District, where he also served as Associate Vice Chancellor of Planning and Research, Director of Development, and Dean of Instruction in two divisions at Merritt College. He is currently serving his second term on the Board of Education for the Oakland Unified School District, where he helped launch the East Bay Regional Occupation Program (EBROP). He also served as a senior consultant for the East Bay Career Advancement Academy, a career ladders project for Peralta and Contra Costa Community College Districts.
Dr. Yee’s has long time experience in K-12 education, especially educator preparation and administration. He has served as chair of the Education Department at Holy Names University, associate professor in Educational Leadership at St. Mary’s College of California, and assistant professor in Educational Administration at Boston College. He was the executive director of the Oakland Education Cabinet, under Mayor Elihu Harris, and the executive director of the Safe Passages initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, under the East Bay Community Foundation. He has been a school principal, central office administrator, and teacher for two decades. He earned his Ed.D. in Administration and Policy Analysis from Stanford University in 1995, his Master in Public Administration at California State University Hayward in 1977, and Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy at University of California, Berkeley in 1967.
